What a paramedic adds beyond an ambulance crew

The ambulance comes crewed. The vehicle crew is enough when cover only needs to sit in one place. The reason to book additional paramedic-on-the-ground capacity is when you need clinical capability dispersed across a venue rather than concentrated at one position.

  • A marathon with cover at start, finish, water stations and a mid-course turnaround
  • A multi-stage outdoor festival with stages distributed across a large venue
  • A construction site with multiple high-risk work zones operating simultaneously

What a paramedic does not do

Honest clarity matters here. A paramedic is not a doctor and is not a substitute for hospital care. The role is to provide trained clinical assessment and immediate treatment in the field, then escalate properly when escalation is needed. For any case that requires hospital-level intervention, the paramedic stabilises and coordinates the handover to ambulance and hospital services.

Paramedic service questions

A paramedic or EMT on hire provides clinical care on the ground at your event, worksite or production. Beyond basic first aid (which any trained first aider can do), the role covers more advanced clinical assessment, airway support within scope, recognising serious medical events early, stabilising casualties for transport, and coordinating handover to ambulance services if escalation is needed. Paramedic scope is wider than EMT scope (including certain medications under protocol); we confirm what each booking includes at quote time based on the role deployed.
Different training, different scope of practice. A workplace first aider is trained to provide immediate care for the first few minutes of an incident, including CPR, AED use, bleeding control and basic injury management. A paramedic has substantially more clinical training and a wider scope, including medical assessment, airway management, certain medications, and more advanced trauma care. For most routine workplace situations a first aider is the right answer. For events, productions and worksites where the risk profile or headcount justifies more, a paramedic is the right addition.
We would recommend booking both: the ambulance comes crewed, and the paramedic is an additional layer of clinical capacity on the ground. The clearest case for paramedic-on-hire is when you need clinical capability dispersed across a venue (multiple positions, large headcount, long route, or extended duration), or when the risk profile of the activity justifies more than just one fixed ambulance position.
Yes. On-set medical standby for productions involving stunts, vehicles, water work, height work, fire effects, or any extended shoot day is one of the categories we cover. For shoot days with risk on the call sheet, an on-set paramedic is the standard recommendation for the duration of the shoot.
Yes. Every paramedic sent to your job holds the relevant clinical qualifications for the role they are doing. Every clinical role is filled by someone qualified for it. Specific credentials are confirmed at quote time and on the team profile we send before the booking.
Yes, for smaller and lower-risk events a trained first aid team is often the right size of cover, and we tell you when that is the honest answer. Book a paramedic when the event carries real clinical risk: physical exertion in heat, a large or dense crowd, stunts or water, or a venue where an ambulance would take time to reach the casualty. Tell us the event and headcount and we recommend the level of cover, not the most expensive one.
Usually by the hour, for each person on the team, from the time they arrive to the time you release them, with a minimum booking length. GST is added on top. An early start or late finish can add a transport charge, and an overrun is normally charged at the same hourly rate. Send us the date, hours and headcount and we come back with a price for your event.
